As many of you will be aware, there is currently a lot of media surrounding issues at The Lost Dogs’ Home. Lort Smith is a completely separate and independent organisation.

Lort Smith has been situated at 24 Villiers Street in North Melbourne for more than 80 years. Unfortunately some people are confused, thinking Lort Smith and The Lost Dogs’ Home are the same organisation. This is not the case.

Lort Smith operates the largest animal hospital in Australia. We aim to provide exceptional veterinary care irrespective of a person’s circumstances, offering discounts for health care card holders and pensioners as well as payment plans. In 2017 we provided $1.4 million worth of discounts for people on low incomes. In addition, we provide an adoption service and a range of community outreach programs including Pet Therapy.

Lort Smith does not receive any ongoing government funding or income from local councils to pay for the animals in our care. We rely on the generosity of our donors and the community to help us continue our important work.
