As many of you will be aware, there is currently social media surrounding issues at The Lost Dogs’ Home. Lort Smith is a completely separate and independent organisation.

Lort Smith operates the largest not-for-profit animal hospital in Australia. We aim to provide exceptional veterinary care irrespective of a person’s circumstances, offering discounts for health care card holders and pensioners as well as payment plans.

In 2019 we provided $1.5 million worth of discounts for people on low incomes. In addition, we provide an adoption service and a range of community outreach programs including Pet Therapy.

Lort Smith has been situated at 24 Villiers Street in North Melbourne for more than 80 years. Unfortunately due to our geographical location some may confuse the two. Please be aware we are two very different organisations, importantly due to our large veterinary expertise and dedicated donors, Lort Smith will never give up on a rehomable animal – no matter how long it takes.

Lort Smith does not receive any ongoing government funding or income from local councils to pay for the animals in our care. We rely on the generosity of our donors and the community to help us continue our important work.
