Nurse Jess joined Lort Smith in 2015. Prior to this, she worked for four other veterinary clinics.
“Lort Smith differs to other clinics because the focus is on the patient’s welfare first, before money. We have the ability to support clients with treatment therapies and payment options that may not otherwise be offered by other clinics,” shares Nurse Jess.
For as long as she can remember, Jess has always loved animals and knew she would choose a career as either a veterinarian or a vet nurse.
Recently appointed to the newly created position of Inpatient Coordinator, Nurse Jess is responsible for facilitating daily operations and service delivery of the inpatient service of the hospital. From admission to discharge, Nurse Jess monitors the flow of patients, making sure inpatient lists are kept at a reasonable number so the care of the patient is not compromised by time constraints.
Liaising closely with the theatre coordinator and in-house medical consultant, Nurse Jess ensures that patients are prioritised accordingly in theatre and for ultrasound procedures. She trains new and junior staff on inpatient shifts to ensure work standards and expectations are maintained to a consistent standard, and she works with reception and admit/discharge staff to ensure estimates and payment arrangements have been discussed and are accurate.
This role is a perfect example of how Lort Smith continues to evolve and adapt our processes and procedures to ensure the best possible care is offered to our patients.
Nurse Jess states the great variety of cases that come through our doors each day as the reason she enjoys working at Lort Smith.
“Every day is always a learning opportunity and much knowledge can be gained from such a diverse and experienced team of staff members,” shares Nurse Jess.
