Pet Legacy Program

Despite the fact that pets are much-loved members of the family, very few of us have a plan in place to ensure they have a wonderful, caring home for life when we pass away. In the majority of cases, the best option is to consider asking a trusted friend or family member to care for your pet/s. Should you choose this option be sure to discuss your wishes with your nominated friend or relative.

If this option is not possible, then our Pet Legacy Program can provide you with peace of mind knowing that, should the need arise, Lort Smith will find your pet/s a loving home.

By giving us as much detail on the Pet Legacy Registration Form as you can about your pet’s health, temperament, medical and general needs, we will be able to provide the highest level of interim care for your pet/s, while we find a suitable new forever home for them, that matches their needs.

Wording for your will

A residuary gift is a percentage of the remainder of your estate after all debts have been settled and any specific gifts given. Residuary gifts provide Lort Smith with the greatest impact.

A pecuniary gift is a fixed sum of money. This could also be assets or shares:

As a guide, to make sure your wishes are met for either kind of gift, the following wording can be used:

I ___(name)_________ of ____________(address)______________________

Bequeath

(_____ % of my residual Estate / the sum of $ ______/specific item/s __________)

to Lort Smith (ABN 87 004 238 475) for the use and purposes of the said organisation. The official receipt of the organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge of my bequest. I express the wish that on my death Lort Smith should take responsibility for the interim care of my pet/s that I may own at the time of my death or otherwise act in their best interests. This gift will not fail if I do not own any pets at the time of my death.
