Lort Smith Animal Hospital has expressed utter dismay at the treatment of two six-week kittens thrown out of a car in Melbourne’s west, which has left one of them severely injured and requiring emergency medical assistance.
Unfortunately one of the kittens couldn’t be located after the incident but little kitten Dorothy was rushed to emergency department by a good Samaritan.
Lort Smith Chief Veterinarian, Dr Jessica Wilde, said Dorothy is now being treated for a suspected fractured pelvis.
‘’How anyone could do this to any animal, let alone defenceless, six-week-old kittens is beyond comprehension,’’ said Dr Wilde.
‘’Our team were and remain heart-broken that something like this can happen. Amazingly little Dorothy is proving to be quite the little fighter and we are doing everything we can to help her pull through.
‘’There is simply no excuse for this kind of behaviour, none at all. There are hundreds and hundreds of vets around the State and many shelters who would take animals like Dorothy into their care. Tossing them out of a window is simply unacceptable and beyond cruel.’’
In-between hospital visits, Dorothy is recovering in foster with nurse Jordan who was first on scene when Dorothy was bought in.
‘’She is such a beautiful little girl and despite her terrible start to life, is getting stronger every day, we will make sure to stay by her side and give her all the love and care she needs to get through this traumatic event,’’ said Jordan.
Media are invited to join us at Lort Smith Animal Hospital to meet Dorothy and those who have been caring for her.
