Australians will have the chance to double the help for pets in need next Wednesday, September 2 when Lort Smith’s Pet Care Crisis Appeal goes live.

Lort Smith Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Jessica Wilde, said it was no surprise people all over the country are currently experiencing a pet care crisis.

‘’As living costs continue to rise, more people are struggling to make ends meet. In the most extreme cases, people face the harrowing decision between putting food on their family’s plate, or paying for treatment when their pet falls ill or gets injured,’’ said Dr Wilde.

‘’We believe every pet deserves the opportunity to access critical care in their time of need. Even when their person can’t afford it. That’s why we are calling on everyone to support the 24 hours only Pet Care Crisis Appeal this Wednesday September 2.

Lort Smith is Australia’s busiest not-for-profit animal hospital, caring for over 15,000 animals each year, and we receive no ongoing government funding.

The money raised will support our urgent vet care service, which helps pets in need who walk through our doors, get access to the urgent care and treatment they require.

All donations will be doubled on this day with the money directed to vital pain relief, life-saving diagnostics, surgeries, and even surgical equipment to be able to treat pets in critical condition.

Dr Wilde said the money will be used to help many experiencing financial hardship.

‘’This is a chance for the community to ‘’pay it forward’’ when it comes to pet vet care,’’ said Dr Wilde. ‘’ We hope Australia can join us and set tails wagging this Wednesday.’’
