Lort Smith appoints Dr Jessica Wilde as new Chief Operating Officer

Lort Smith, Australia’s largest not-for-profit animal hospital, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Jessica Wilde as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective September 1, 2025.

Dr Wilde brings a wealth of experience to the role, holding degrees in Zoology/Animal Biology and Veterinary Science from the University of Melbourne. With over 11 years of leadership experience at Greencross Vets and most recently as Director of Veterinary Services at The Lost Dogs’ Home, she is well-equipped to oversee Lort Smith’s extensive veterinary operations across its North Melbourne and Campbellfield sites.

Frances Mirabelli, CEO of Lort Smith, said, “Dr Wilde’s wealth of experience, spanning both commercial and not-for-profit sectors, means she has strong credentials for this pivotal role. I’m excited to work with Dr Wilde and the rest of my Executive Team to realise Lort Smith’s vision for every pet to receive the care they deserve and that the joy of animal companionship should be accessible to all.”

Dr Wilde said she was excited about joining Lort Smith, an organisation with a proud history of compassion and a strong vision for animal welfare in Melbourne. “I am inspired by how the organisation continues to evolve, opening purpose-built centres, strengthening community programs, and adapting to new challenges while remaining anchored in its mission,” she said.

In her new role, Dr Wilde aims to expand access to veterinary care and enhance community outreach programs. She highlighted plans to deepen the impact of initiatives like Pet Therapy and Emergency Boarding, while building partnerships that ensure equitable care for pets across Melbourne’s diverse communities.

“A great team is one where people feel connected, supported, and inspired by a shared purpose,” Dr Wilde added. “At Lort Smith, every staff member, volunteer, partner, and pet carer is united by love for animals and community. I look forward to fostering an environment grounded in empathy, collaboration, continuous learning, and respect to ensure our veterinary professionals thrive.”

Dr Wilde’s appointment marks a significant step for Lort Smith as it continues to champion animal welfare and provide high-quality accessible veterinary care to Melbourne’s pets and their families.
