Animals receiving medical care is on the rise at Lort Smith Animal Hospital with data from its latest Impact Report showing an increase in several surgery categories and demand for increased affordable medical care on the rise.
The popularity of Pet Therapy services continued to increase with Lort Smith 30-year-old program still going strong.
Adoption rates were on the rise and a whopping $1,165,365 was distributed across 8,434 people facing financial hardship.
Data from Lort Smith’s 2025 Impact Report revealed:
- 15,538 animals received care across our North Melbourne and Campbellfield sites
- 18,086 surgeries and procedures were performed
- 55 vets and 81 vet nurses working tirelessly
- 791 pets found new homes
- 65,225 people reached through our pet therapy teams
- 18,326 volunteer hours
- 67,554 phone calls received
‘’It certainly was a year of consolidation, reflection and renewed purpose for Lort Smith. It was a year where we seriously reviewed just how we operate, what we do well, and where we needed to evolve to better serve our community,’’ said Lort Smith CEO Frances Mirabelli.
“As the cost-of-living crisis placed increasing pressure on people and their pets, we strengthened our commitment to keeping them together. We expanded access to affordable veterinary care, grew our community and Pet Therapy programs, increased public awareness, and introduced new initiatives to support people experiencing financial hardship.’’
Lort Smith is Australia’s largest not-for profit animal hospital and receives no ongoing government funding.
