Over the past six to eight months, some concerning patterns have emerged. We are seeing more surrenders, sicker animals and an increase in the number of people struggling to afford care for their animals in case of an emergency or sudden illness.
Lort Smith is a not-for-profit organisation that receives no ongoing government funding. With support from the community it serves, Lort Smith provides essential veterinary care for those doing it tough through our Pets In Need and Emergency Welfare Assistance Programs.

Desexing packages are available to residents of the City of Whittlesea at Lort Smith Campbellfield for just $50 per cat. The procedure is straight forward and owners can drop off and collect their animals on the same day. Payment is required at the time of booking. The package includes:
- a routine health check;
- routine desexing with post-operative pain relief;
- F3 vaccinations protecting cats from flu and parvovirus; and
- microchip implantation and database registration which will help reunite missing pets with their owners quickly and easily.

North Melbourne
Centrally located in Melbourne’s medical precinct, our emergency animal hospital and vet clinic provides critical care for sick and injured animals, as well as routine clinical services.
Campbellfield
A brand new purpose-built vet clinic, adoption centre and community dog park located 16 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD, enables us to serve more pets and people.

Lort Smith Adoption Centre Campbellfield rehomes approximately 600 surrendered animals each year. If you are considering adopting a pet, the first step is to carefully read the ‘before you adopt’ section.
